When you’re done

You can tell which part of a Discord problem is yours to fix and which needs Heir support.

Heir reaches your Discord in three separate ways. Knowing which one is failing saves you from reinstalling the bot for a problem the bot cannot cause.

A bot that shows as online proves only that Heir is connected to Discord. It does not prove that commands are reaching Heir or that a queued message has been posted.

A command is missing or refused

1. Check that you are in the intended Discord and using the intended Heir bot.
2. If the command does not appear, ask a Discord manager to review Server Settings → Integrations → Heir → Commands. Heir makes League commands visible by default, but existing Discord restrictions may still hide them. There is no separate command-access grant in Heir.
3. If the command appears but is refused, read the reply. Heir checks your League and Team authority regardless of what Discord shows you. Seeing a command never means you may run it.
4. Team commands are retired. /create-team, /edit-team, /leave-team, /disband-team, and /reform-team only return links to the website, and Teams receive notifications through webhooks instead of a bot.
5. If every command times out while joins and role changes still appear in Discord, report that exact combination to Heir support. Those are different paths, and the distinction tells support where to look.

An announcement did not appear

For most announcements — scores, stat events, tournaments, predictions, leaderboards — there is no per-message status to read. Check these in order before repeating whatever produced the post:

1. The category is still enabled and points at the channel you expect, under Manage League → Discord.
2. Heir can post in that channel. Channel-specific permission overrides can block it even when the bot's server permissions are fine; see Update Heir's Discord permissions.
3. The original action actually completed in Heir — a result that was never finalised produces no announcement.

If all three are right and the post is still missing, contact Heir support with the details below rather than redoing the action repeatedly.

The Join message is the exception: Manage League → Membership shows its saved destination and a delivery status, and offers a recovery action. A queued message has not necessarily reached Discord yet, and a status Heir cannot confirm may already exist in the channel — look there before posting another copy. Configure League membership covers that flow.

Turning an announcement category off stops future posts. It does not erase results, standings, or the records behind them.

A role did not change

Roster, Free Agent, Captain, and Organizer roles are all mirrored from Heir down to Discord. Editing one of those roles by hand in Discord does not change anyone's Heir access, and it is not a substitute for fixing Team Priority, League membership, or an Enrollment restriction.

When Heir cannot write a role, Manage League → Discord reports why — commonly a missing Manage Roles or View Audit Log permission, a role positioned above Heir's own role, or no free role slots. Heir keeps retrying and never drops anyone's Heir permissions while it is blocked. Follow Update Heir's Discord permissions and Configure Discord Roster roles.

If the Organizer role was deleted, Heir recreates it once Discord permissions allow and restores it for current Organizers. The recreated role has no server permissions, so reapply any custom channel permissions or command visibility it previously had.

A Team webhook post is missing

Team posts use that Team's own saved destination and notification preferences under Manage Team → Discord, not a League's channels. Check that the webhook still exists in Discord and that the selected categories are enabled. Whoever can read the webhook's channel can read its posts, so choose the channel with that in mind. Removing a Team webhook and deleting a League's Discord installation are different actions.

Reporting a problem

Include the bot name, the Discord server, the command or announcement, roughly when it happened, and the exact message you saw. Never post RCON passwords, bot tokens, or other secrets in a support channel.
