Tournaments
Choose a competition format and understand entry, ranking, and progression.
Create and manage tournaments from your League’s Tournaments page on heir.gg. Organizers build the field and report results; entrants use the registration controls provided by the tournament. There is no /tournament slash command.
The public list is /<league>/tournaments. Organizers use /<league>/tournaments/manage and /<league>/tournaments/manage/new; an older /<league>/manage/tournaments link redirects there. A tournament has a public page at /<league>/t/<tournament-id>. A scheduled match opens at /<league>/s/<match-code-or-id> when it has a public match record.
Pick the simplest format that fits
| Format | Good for | How entrants progress |
|---|---|---|
| Single elimination | A short event with a clear bracket | One loss eliminates an entrant. |
| Double elimination | A bracket with a second chance | A second loss eliminates an entrant; the final can include a reset. |
| Groups → elimination | More initial games before a playoff | Group standings determine who enters the elimination stage. |
| Round robin | A small field where everyone should meet | Standings rank the field after the configured meetings. |
| Swiss | A larger field with several rounds | Pairings and standings develop across the configured rounds. |
| GSL groups | Four-entrant groups with a decider | Two entrants qualify from each group. |
| Custom bracket | An event that needs a hand-built bracket | Configure the bracket connections in the editor. |
Available formats and field sizes depend on the League’s plan. The creation screen shows locked choices. See limits and plans.
Ranked or unranked
A ranked tournament records eligible League match results and affects Roster Elo. It uses League Rosters and pairwise scored matches. An unranked tournament progresses its own competition without changing League Elo and can allow custom participant Teams when configured. Free-for-all, leaderboard, and custom stages containing multi-participant matches are unranked; a pairwise custom bracket can still be ranked.
Choose this deliberately before starting. A tournament containing self-entered custom participant Teams must be unranked. Heir validates and records results the same way on both paths.
Discord and predictions
With Discord connected and the relevant announcements enabled, Heir can post tournament updates and send Captain notifications. Configure destinations in Manage League → Discord. A queued notification is delivered asynchronously, and closed DMs can prevent a Captain from receiving it.
Predictions require the League’s entitlement and settings, an eligible upcoming two-sided bracket match, and a scheduled start time. They are separate from entering the tournament. Expanded competition matches still have public detail pages and can be scheduled, but they do not expose predictions and do not receive an in-game match code.
Game-server tracking
A supported tracked game server can associate observations with a standard two-sided tournament fixture through its match code; both sides must be League Rosters for stat binding. Expanded competition matches have no match code and use web result entry instead. Either path still needs the fixture’s score, completed series rules, and approval before it becomes a League result. Follow game-server setup, check the fixture’s score, and avoid manually entering a second result while automatic reporting is finishing.
